In the current video series, we have been talking about living lives of spiritual significance. God has blessed us by giving us access to his mind in His Word. And the first dimension of a spiritually significant life is assimilating the mind of God. The Bible tells us in Acts chapter 10, verse 38, about the Apostle Peter, who is speaking to Cornelius’s household, and explaining to them the truth of the gospel. He talks about Jesus and what Jesus did with his life. Acts 10.38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how you went about doing good and healing all who were under the tyranny of the devil because God was with him.
He breaks these down for us and tells us about the life of Jesus. He tells us that Jesus had extraordinary communion with the Holy Spirit. He was endued with extraordinary power by the Holy Spirit. And because of this, he went about doing good. He devoted His entire life to this one thing, bringing goodness from God to the lives of men. He now typifies this good that Jesus did by saying that he healed all who were oppressed of the devil.
He set the people free from captivity; He changed the circumstances of their lives. He brought them to a better place in life by using the power of the Holy Spirit. He was this Person who, while he was on the earth, did absolutely one thing and one thing, only, do good to humanity. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil because God was with him.
The same thing that empowered him to do good empowers us to do good. Why? Because we are also anointed with power and with the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, Jesus said that as the Father sent Him He is also sending us. He sent us on the same mission and with the same capacity. Of course, we have a lesser measure of the power of the Holy Spirit than Jesus did.
He told His disciples to stay in Jerusalem, and they would receive power from on high. The Holy Spirit came and anointed them. We also receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and we are anointed with the Holy Spirit and power. The consequence would be the same as it was for Jesus. We would go about doing good and healing all. I want to emphasize that “doing good” part of it. It seems that this is not a focus of the life of believers, even those of us who believe in healing and want to see people who are sick, set free.
In many instances, it’s a matter of exercise of power. It’s a matter of doctrinal accuracy. It’s a matter of proving that healing is for today and that God still heals today. So we do go about healing, but not necessarily doing good We go about doing deliverance and setting people free from captivity. But the motivation is not always the desire to do good. It is imperative that we focus on the matter of doing good. Jesus went about doing good.
To go about doing good, you must want to do good. And that’s where we see the need for transformation of character. To live a spiritually significant life, you must have the desire and the passion to do good.
To go about doing good, you must want to do good. Share on XThis capacity to know God, to know the will of God, to do the will of God and to impose the will of God in our generation is what we call spiritual significance. It requires transformation of character and what we call holiness, righteous living. And that is so important. Jesus did good because there was goodness in him. And that goodness was released to the people. God wants to transform our character so that we would truly be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
