The character of God is goodness

How do we know the nature of God is to heal? It’s because the character of God is goodness; healing is good. Jesus went about doing good. So, the Father is still doing good because that’s who He is. Goodness and mercy. That’s what God releases to His people. He’s not trying to kill you. He’s not trying to judge you. He is doing good. The Bible says he does. Jesus went about doing good. And He is the image of the invisible God; the exact representation of His being. What Jesus was is what the Father is; what Jesus demonstrated is the nature of the Father.

And also, He made it very clear that He only did what He saw His Father do. So, what Jesus went about doing in the earth is a demonstration of what God is continually doing…good; good. Is sickness good? No! If sickness is not good, then don’t expect it from God because He’s always doing good.

This may seem very simple, but it is a simple truth that must penetrate our psyche. It must completely change the way we think and the things we expect from God. When you understand the goodness of God, you will receive your healing with greater ease because you know, that God is not colluding with sickness to poison your existence or to teach you a lesson. God has ways of teaching and they don’t include sickness. And so, when we see that Jesus went about doing good, we understand that the Father is always doing good. When we see also that everything that Jesus did was what He got from His Father, we realise that the good that Jesus was doing, it was the Father doing the good.

John 5: 9 says,

“Then Jesus replied,’ I assure you, the Son is not able to do anything on His own. But only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son also does these things.”

So, we have the clear testimony of the Word of God that Jesus went about doing good (Acts 10:38) and this good that He did was helping people, healing people, restoring people. And then we have Jesus’s testimony that the things He did were actually the things the Father was doing and that He was going along with them. See? This is perfect! He did the things the Father did in the same way the Father did them. So whatever motivated Jesus is a motivation from the Father, whatever action Jesus undertook, it was the Father that undertook it.

But how can we be sure that we will receive healing?

The Father gives good things to those that ask Him

Jesus said that the Father gives good things to those who ask Him, and He actually compared Him to us. Healing is a good thing!

In Matthew 7:11 Jesus says,

“If you then who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Now tell me if you’re a parent and your child was sick; would you leave them sick and you had the means to make them well? You would think, ‘oh, just stay sick; what’s your problem?’ No! You know the way we are! Parents run helter skelter. They will empty their bank accounts, spend everything they have to get their children well, even the most stubborn of their children, even the most unbearable of their children. They will do anything in their power to make them well! Are we any more righteous than God?

But why am I not healed?

Now someone will say ‘why am I not healed? What you must realise is this: that God wants you to be well! That has to sink in. Because it’s understanding that – that fundamental goodness of God and willingness for us to be in good health that will stir up our faith which will enable us to receive. I tell people all the time: “Stop trying to be healed, just develop your faith! ” Grow in the knowledge of God; grow in the revelation that will stir faith up in your heart and make you feel, ‘of course I am healed!’

Jesus is wonderful. His words are wonderful. His ways are wonderful. And the fact that the Father gave us the Son is proof that He will give us any good thing. If we settle on the fact that healing is a good thing, then we know that the Father will give any good thing.

Psalm 84:11 says,

“For the Lord God is a sun and a shield, the Lord gives grace and glory. He does not withhold the good from those who live with integrity. Happy is the person who trusts in You, Lord of Hosts”

See? This is the nature of God! To give grace and glory; not to give suffering, sickness and misery. He does not withhold the good and healing is a good thing.

How do we know that healing is in the nature of God?

He identifies Himself as the God who heals

It is intrinsic to His nature to bring wellness, wholeness and health. He spoke to His people in Exodus 15: 26

“If you will carefully obey the Lord your God, do what is right in His eyes, pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, I will not inflict any illnesses on you that I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am Yahweh who heals you.”

This is awesome! He is the One who heals!  He identifies Himself as the God who heals! And it’s imperative for us to understand that that’s who He is. Its intrinsic to His nature to heal. It’s not something He tries to do. It’s natural to Him, it’s normal to Him. Healing is just the way He is; doing good is just the way He is. He’s not trying on this occasion to heal you because…hmm. It’s just the way He is, He’s the healing God!

The testimony of the Scriptures

The Scriptures testify that He’s the God who heals; that it’s His nature to heal. And I love this passage. Psalm 103: 1-5:

“My soul, praise Yahweh and all that is within me, praise His holy name. My soul, praise the Lord, and do not forget all His benefits. He forgives all your sin; He heals all your diseases. He redeems your life from the Pit. He crowns you with faithful love and compassion. He satisfies you with goodness; your youth is renewed like the eagle.”

I mean, look at all of that! This is good. This is the goodness of God being demonstrated. And it’s broken down for us. He heals all your diseases. Have you noticed that it doesn’t say He, from time to time, may heal your disease, when it’s His will and He feels like it? It says, ‘He heals ALL your diseases.’ This is a habitual action; this is a continuous action. This is an action that speaks of naturalness. Do you see? He heals all your diseases. So anytime you’re sick, you can expect Him to heal you of whatever disease. Though He heals you every time, He heals you of everything. He heals all your diseases.

How can we be sure we will be healed?

Jesus healed all who came to Him

Acts 10:38 speaks of:

“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were under the tyranny of the Devil, because God was with Him.”

There’s one point I want to draw your attention to there…He healed all…all. Did you see that? He healed all! In other words, every single person who came to Jesus for healing was healed. And Jesus said He did what His Father did. In other words, the desire of God is that every single person who comes to Him for healing be healed!

He healed all who were under the tyranny of the devil because God was with Him. So, the Bible considers sickness to be the tyranny of the devil. The devil is terrorizing people with sickness, and God is healing them.

Jesus’ default reaction was healing.

He never told anybody I don’t want to heal you. Isn’t that amazing? Never! Nobody asked Jesus for healing, and He said, ‘well, no wait for Peter and John. When I have gone up to heaven they will heal you!’ Never!

What Jesus did on the earth was a clear demonstration that God wants to heal and still heals everyone, because His default reaction was to heal. The Bible tells us that the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Jesus (Col 2:9). What Jesus did is what God does, and Jesus healed all the time. Every time people came to him for healing, He healed them. He is the image of the invisible God. What does that tell you about God? That He is willing to heal!

Jesus empowered His disciples to heal

Matthew 10:1 says,

“Jesus called His disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness”

His disciples! That’s how much God wants to heal. That’s how much Jesus wanted people healed. He not only healed, He also empowered His disciples to heal. He empowered the 72. He told them, ‘heal the sick, cast out demons.’ He could just have said, ‘go preach the gospel,’ which is what we’re doing today. ‘Go preach the gospel and compel them to listen to you. They must believe, if they don’t believe they’re not serious-minded!’ No, He said, heal them! And he’s telling you today heal them!

Before penning off, I will leave you with a prophetic prayer:

I prophesy over someone today, that the healing power of God is coming upon you. Because God heals all your diseases. He heals you anytime you’re sick, and He heals you of whatever you’re sick of. All your diseases! Whatever disease exists upon the face of the earth, God is able to heal!  Just begin to say ‘Lord, I receive my healing. Thank You, because you are Jehovah Raphe. You are the God who heals me of all my diseases, and I receive your healing of every single disease in this body. I receive healing from the top of my head to the soles of my feet, in the name of Jesus.

Receive your healing beloved, shalom!
