The Lord who heals

Scripture

Exo 15:26

“If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.”esv

He said, “If you will carefully obey the Lord your God, do what is right in His eyes, pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, I will not inflict any illnesses on you that I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am Yahweh who heals you.”

The Lord makes it clear here that His will is for His people to be in good health and that He shall not inflict sickness on them. We also find out that He inflicted sickness on the Egyptians but this is not to be the lot of His people.

Furthermore, not only will He not inflict sickness on His own, He makes it clear that there is a reason for this.

Healer

The reason is that He is their healer. In other words His disposition to them is that of providing healing. A healer not only removes sickness but is not one who causes sickness. Consequently, causing sickness in His people would be contrary to the nature of His relationship with them.

Conditions

He also says that there are conditions for knowing His healing nature. First, they must listen and pay close attention to His instructions and laws. Then, they must obey them and do what is right. In so doing, they are guaranteed good health.

As Christ is the fulfilment of the law, as New Testament believers we can be guaranteed that God is to us a healer, not a killer Nor one who inflicts sickness. We can jettison the idea that any symptom we feel is due to God wanting to teach us something.

Bear in mind that the Apostle Paul highlights in writing to the Corinthian church that some among them are sick, infirm or even dead because of wrong behaviour and wrong attitude with respect to the body of Christ.

Repentance

Consequently, it is worthwhile to examine oneself and pray a prayer of repentance before the Lord and then boldly receive by faith His healing virtue. He is not our killer, He is our healer.

Conclusion

Everyone acts according to their nature and based on relationships. The clear premise here is that God’s relationship with us guarantees enjoyment of a particular dimension of Him, the healer dimension.

This can be hard for some to believe, because sickness is so prevalent among God’s people, yet it is a divine promise. It is a promise made by One who has the power to fulfil it. Let us choose to trust God’s greatness and faithfulness.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus

I thank You for understanding that You are not my killer, You are my healer.

I renounce every sin and disobedience in my life (be specific if the Spirit of God brings something to mind.). I choose to do Your will wholly and completely.

Let Your healing power touch me fully and restore my health. I thank You for it and receive by faith.
