The other day I was speaking to someone who has big plans. I love it when people have big plans. And in the course of the conversation it turns out that there are a few nuts and bolts that are still missing from their plans. To get those in place they will have to step down to a position lower than where they are right now, get their hands dirty and pick up information and skills that will stand them in good stead to succeed in their chosen plans.
I could see the idea wasn’t very palatable to them, and unless they were really heading for the destination they had spoken off, it would be a tremendous step down in life; and would be seen as such and criticised by people who have no idea where they are really headed. It could also be a dead end and a detour if they ended up not going in their stated direction.
Question? Are they serious about where they are heading and what they want to achieve? I will soon find out. Because it will not just happen to them, they will have to make it happen and the road will not be altogether sweet. Life does that to us. the end is good but the road we travel to get there is not always a highway, it can be a winding country road that seems to take us away before taking us to our destination.
It’s our choice to take it. Every year, people start out the year with great optimism, and as believers, receive a plethora of prophecies of all the great things that God is bringing to pass in our generation in 20…. (fill in the blanks). they just know that this is the year when it happens. Then something strange happens midyear, you enquire and they shrug you off murmuring indistinctly, or retort with the much belaboured ‘i’m believing God’. And by the end of the year, well….
Sometimes we really do have a choice; we have a road to travel, a choice to make, a hand soiling choice that may not look clean temporarily but is indispensable to clocking ‘done’ at the end of the year. The good often comes caked in mud and we have to dirty our hands to wipe the mud off and expose the treasure. I want to challenge you this year, dirty those hands and dig out the treasure, if need be take a seemingly illogical step in men’s eyes and go and get the nuts and bolts required to fulfill your dream; it won’t just happen, but it will if you make it.
