One of my greatest desires is that people will see. I pray that the people I lead will see the reality of the things we believe and of the One in whom we have believed. Sometimes you stand in that place in prayer where you are overwhelmed with the consciousness of God and you just weep and cry out to God that the revelation of who God is will submerge His church. We think differently, we speak differently, we live differently when we encounter God.
Too many of us live with an awareness of the truth of a distant deity but not experiential connection in the spirit with Him. The truth of the written word is supposed to bring our spirits to the place of connection with the Holy Spirit in prayer where heavenly reality submerges earthly reality. After all we are spirit beings and are supposed to apprehend God as spirit beings too. Prayer is not a dull fulfillment of duty, it is a place of encounter, spirit communing with spirit; it is a place of vision.
When Gehazi saw into the spirit his whole perspective changed. That happens to us too. Things that seem to matter so much just cease to matter as the reality of another world redefines our vision, values and attitudes. Encountering God also stirs up the desire to please, follow, imitate Christ, it affirms the superiority of God’s Kingdom, its perennity and superior claim on our minds, time and attention. It heightens the sense of privilege at being a child of the kingdom.
And that is why I pray constantly; open my eyes to see, and my heart’s cry for my church and the people I minister to is, Lord, open our eyes to see, such that we cease to starve in the midst of plenty.
