When God comes to church

What glory in church this morning, in the course of the worship, most if not all were face to the ground, on their knees, worshipping God. He came and sat with us, it was magnificent. Some of our people had been facing some serious attacks and I had warned them to be vigilant during the week in prayer. But as usual some did not listen and were stunned by the virulence of the attacks. Saturday night one of my leaders was in a particularly bad way, another one came under strong demonic attack on sunday morning, I came to church asking God to do something awesome, to bring His manifest presence. I am awed to say that He did. The glory was tangible.

We sat, bowed, worshipped and were caught up in Him. I suggested to Him that I did not preach, it seemed to me that I could simply sit there till the service was done, besides, I was in no mood to preach, I just wanted to drink in Jesus. I felt Him insist that I did, and I am glad I did. I preached on the third chapter of Ruth and laughed my way through most of the message. I do not think I have ever preached a funnier message in my whole life. That is a hitherto unknown  (at least to me) side effect of waiting in the presence of God, preaching funny sermons.

And as I sit here this night I marvel at the kindness of God in showing up so beautifully and testifying of His presence and favour at a time when the warfare had been so tough. But we do not go by what appears to be in the natural, but by what is in the Spirit and concerning one of the issues one of us had been dealing with, the Holy Spirit said ‘it is only a storm in a teacup’. God is wonderful to His own, we are His own, God is wonderful to us. I love His presence.
