Divine Healing is God doing good.
Healing is God doing good. And everywhere that Jesus went He did good and healed all the oppressed. So healing did not stop with the Old Testament, it continued with Jesus and it did not stop with Jesus, it continued with the apostles. We see it in the book of Acts. Once the disciples had received power through the Holy Spirit, they began to heal the sick and preach with boldness. In fact, at one point people brought sick people from all over and were even content to just lay them on the ground so that Peter’s shadow would fall on them. The healings were so dramatic and amazing that they had no doubt the people would be healed just by Peter’s shadow falling on them.
He just wanted some money
Once, as Peter and John were going to the temple, they happened upon a poor fellow who was lame from birth. He was being carried to the temple where he would sit at the temple gates to beg alms of the incoming worshippers. Interestingly the gate was called ‘Beautiful’. Something beautiful was about to happen but he did not know it yet. He had no thought of being healed, he just wanted some money. So when he saw the apostles, he turned to them and asked them for money. They, inspired by the Holy Spirit, turned to him and offered him something more than money.
They offered him health. Listen to Peter’s words. They have much to teach us – “What I have I give you; In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” He said he would give the lame man what he had and proceeded to give him healing. Quite, quite extraordinary! It turned the whole community upside down. Everyone wanted to know how this happened, they all knew the man and could not fathom how he came to be walking. It gave Peter and John a platform to talk about Jesus.
Healing continues
Nor did healing stop with the apostles, it continues with us. Jesus never said the apostles would do works that other believers could not do. He said that those who believed in Him would do great works. And when He was leaving the earth after the resurrection, He spoke as the gospel of Mark tells it, of signs that would follow those who believe. And healing was one of them. Besides, since the power did not belong to the apostles, it belonged and still belongs to the Holy Spirit, He can still deploy it today, and He does.
God healed for reasons that are still valid today.
God healed for reasons that are still valid today. He healed out of love, because He had compassion for the people. He healed to meet the need of people. He healed to prove that Jesus was the Saviour; and He still needs to do so today. The effects will be the same, many will believe, some will scoff, some will be amazed, and God will be glorified. Matthew 15. 29-31 says,
“Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.”
Friends, God is still healing to day, if you need healing, reach out to Him in faith. I pray that the power of God will come upon you now and bring total restoration in your body, in the name of Jesus.
