The Greatest Words Ever Spoken by Steven K. Scott
It is fitting i believe, that as we near the final hours of the year of our Lord two thousand and eight my final words on this blog for this year be to review and present to you one of the most essential and useful books ever printed, in my humble estimation – the more than aptly named ‘The Greatest Words Ever Spoken’ by Steven K Scott. Mr Scott does not presume to consider his own words the greatest, indeed as James Robison put it “The greatest words ever spoken were delivered by the greatest man who ever lived: Jesus Christ”.
What Mr Scott does is to offer us a compendium of the words of Jesus by theme. Thus you are afforded a clear picture of what Jesus said about Himself – his identity, mission, death, resurrection etc., about God the Father, about eternity, about humanity, about how to know God, about the Christian’s mission, about success in life, relationships, i think you get the picture. Kudos to Steven Scott for having undertaken such a herculean and no doubt controversial task.
Since birthdays are for me a time of meditation, of stocktaking, of self-assessment, of refocusing and worship, yesterday on my birthday, i sat to the strains of Mahalia Jackson and Read more

“The name of Jonathan Edwards is held in profound veneration by thinking men of all parties; and this universal homage, when contrasted with the obscurity of his life and the peculiarities of his opinions, is one, among a thousand proofs, that real merit will never be long overlooked, and that the rewards of fame are not so capriciously bestowed as is often imagined. Though public opinion sometimes makes preposterous attempts to elevate the mean and the little, and even leaves transcendent merit to struggle for awhile with neglect, it is sure, sooner or later, to rectify its errors. We invariably find that those laurels with which as if in mockery, it has graced inferior genius, begin to wither in the very hour of their bloom; and that it has reserved its “immortal amaranth” for brows worthy of such imperishable honours.”

The water story – why give water and how?
More than once a girl fell in and died before she could be retrieved. It was extremely traumatic. The school management had to intervene and take appropriate measures. That was over 25 years ago, today, such schools have solved the water problem yet elsewhere the problem has not gone away.
• More people die each year from drinking dirty water than from the world’s hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes combined?
• Nearly 90 percent of all diseases in the world are caused by unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene. Every year, there are 4 billion cases of diarrhea as a direct result of drinking contaminated water; this results in more than 2.2 million deaths each year—the equivalent of 20 jumbo jets crashing every day?
• Over half of all schools worldwide lack safe water and sanitation, jeopardizing the health and education of millions of schoolchildren. Most of the 115 million children currently out of school are girls. Many are denied their place in the classroom by lack of access to decent toilets at school, or the daily chore of walking miles to collect water? (UNICEF)
• Reasearch in Uganda found households spending on average 660 hours a year collecting water. This represents two full months of labor, with attendant opportunity costs for education, income generation, and female leisure time?(UNDP)
While waiting for all the governments of the third world to get their act together, there is something you and i can do. We can give wells to whole communities. It is estimated that ten dollars will give one child water for life. This christmas we will all, collectively in the West spend more than 500 billion dollars at Christmas.
Our initial target is 5,000 dollars to provide a small well with a pump for one community and we ask you to join us. Our original facebook donation page is not working, we apologise to those who tried to donate via this page, you may now donate via a separate web page that is fully secure. Your donations go directly to the association.
Please spread the word, post this note to your profile or/ and share the donation page with your friends, let them have the opportunity to be a blessing. Thank you for being a part of this. God Bless you and Merry Christmas.

Pondering Christmas – incarnational thinking
This sunday i rejoiced. For me christmas is a time of great rejoicing.. Indeed the whole year is for rejoicing as the cause of joy is perennial. Yet we sometimes get caught up in doing life and even doing church and somehow do less of God Himself. But i always challenge myself to rethink the incarnation. Christians believe something very fascinating, that at one point in human history God the Creator became a human being not by some act of immediate transformation the way one would change into a rat, a cat and change back into a human being; but by birth; being born as a baby. And go through the whole human experience of life to eventually depart the earth back to His heavenly glory after redeeming mankind.
It has always struck me that this was the distinguishing feature of the christian faith to which one cannot possibly be indifferent. If one believes it, then surely it must constantly bring overwhelming gladness, amazement, astonishment, delight and gratitude. It must surely inspire, require more than verbal or unconscious allegiance, but a radical commitment to this God who loved such as to take on such a humble form and undergo as a human atrocious punishment, humiliation and pain that was due to us, but that He vicariously took on Himself to pave the way for us to be once again in right relationship with Him. Awesome!
It is a thing so astonishing Read more
Living Rich for Less – Ellie Kay (2 copies to give away)
Ellie Kay has a story to tell; and on the basis of her story and using entertaining and enlightening examples, she shares how to manage money and live well with a modest income. Her bio reads “Ellie knows what it’s like to be financially-strapped or struggling, wanting to be the Joneses but feeling as poor in spirit as in pocketbook. She went, within two and a half years, from being a new wife and mom
with $40,000 in consumer debt and seven children (and college educations) to support, to being completely debt-free and within fifteen years able to pay cash for eleven different cars, give away three of those cars, buy two five-bedroom houses (moving from one to the other) and nicely furnish each, take wonderful vacations, dress her family in fine fashion; and support more than thirty non-profit organizations in more than a dozen different countries, giving away more than $100,000.”
Her tone is witty, clever, at times touching. With chapter titles like Little Miss Moneybag grows up, Investing for Idiots, Fun, Fun, Fun, Shopping to save, Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble, you will laugh and learn as she gives tips for saving, giving and spending – the 10/10/80 rule to achieve not only financial security but a high quality of life and relationships. Some of the illustrations must of course be adapted to the European context, some investment vehicles mentioned for instance are US specific. Yet at a time when many are troubled by the financial situation, this book is worth a read.
I will send two free copies of this book to the first two people who write in for them (in the Paris area). Just click on Contact and send me an email.
