When I was thirsty you gave me to drink ?

Perhaps one of the great challenges believers have always faced is in reconciling faith and works. The tension is there, even in the Scriptures. We in the 21st century use words like social justice, equity, charity, whatever the words, the concerns are the same. Can we, in the name of Jesus, provide assistance to those who have less than we do? Can we truly call ourselves friends of Jesus and live in affluence while not sparing a thought for those less fortunate?

It is estimated that 5000 children die daily from water borne diseases, this is absolutely scandalous. Yet the solution is simple, clean water and proper sanitation. But who will provide it? Do we wait for third world governments to get their act together, and let the children keep dying or do we choose to lend a hand, and offer a cup of water, in Jesus’s name.

Water for Life – it’s our business too

June is our Water Month. We are relaunching our drinking water project we initially began at Christmas. The Water for Life decade was inaugurated by the UN in 2005 with a view to reducing by half the number of people worldwide with no access to drinking water. But why is water such a big deal?

Here are a few facts:

  1. “Safe water is fundamental to human life, yet more than 1 billion people do not have access to it.” (UNICEF)
  2. More people die each year from drinking dirty water than from the world’s hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes combined.
  3. Nearly 90 percent of all diseases in the world are caused by unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene. Every year,2.2 million die of diarrhoea as a direct result of drinking contaminated water; — the equivalent of 20 jumbo jets crashing every day. (LWT) Read more

Our Christmas project this year is to give life by giving water. There are people the world over dying of preventable diseases because they have no access to drinking water. You and I can change that. This Christmas we can choose to not only shop but share. Watch the video below.

At our Christmas service on December 21 we will be taking a special offering to pay for wells in the third world. Only ten dollars will provide water for a child for life. Do you want to be a part of giving hope?

Of course many of you cannot join us for our Christmas service, but you can still be a part of what we are doin, you can donate online, just click on the link below :
